Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, poisonous gas. It is important to be aware about the dangers of carbon monoxide as it can cause you harm and in extreme scenarios pose a threat to your life.

Early symptoms of high levels of exposure to carbon monoxide include nausea, tiredness and headaches. Carbon monoxide poisoning may arise due to a faulty heating system, a gas boiler not being serviced or not enough ventilation.

To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning:

  • Allow us access to your home to carry out the annual gas safety check
  • Do not block air vents, flus or chimneys
  • Keep rooms well ventilated
  • If you have a gas boiler, make sure your carbon monoxide alarm is installed close to your boiler and that you can test this like you would a smoke alarm and inform us if there is a fault with it

If you suspect a carbon monoxide leak please call the National Gas Emergency Service number 0800 111 999.
