Health and safety for HMO accommodation
Squared team members carry out weekly health and safety checks at all our Properties, this includes a monthly room check.
You may see team members walking around the accommodation at any time. As part of our duty of care to you, we must make sure that the accommodation is safe and secure.
If we spot something that needs to be repaired, this will be reported to our Maintenance team. It’s also your responsibility to report any maintenance issues to us as soon as possible.
We carry out room/flat checks monthly. We respect your privacy, so we will not go through your belongings or drawers. We just want to ensure that the space is safe and that you’re managing it well.
We also have to make sure that we are compliant with things such as fire safety, premises risk assessments, gas, and electric plus lots more. We organise for these checks to be carried out and are audited on them:
- Smoking and vaping are not allowed in any Squared property.
- Electric scooter safety, they must be stored safely in your room and not left charging while you are out.
- All Fire doors to be closed at all times.
- Keep external doors (both front and back) locked. We also advise that you keep your room door locked.
Health and safety for hostel accommodation
We carry out daily, weekly and monthly in-house health and safety checks. You may see us walking around the accommodation each day with our clipboard, checking lights, sockets, and communal spaces.
As part of our duty of care to you, we must make sure that the accommodation is safe.
If we spot something that needs to be repaired, this will be reported to our Maintenance team who will organise for it to be fixed or replaced.
If you spot something that needs repairing, then please do let us know.
We also carry out room/flat checks. The frequency of these will depend on your support needs, but they usually range from weekly to monthly. We respect your privacy, so we will not go through your belongings or drawers. We just want to ensure that the space is safe, and that you’re managing it well.
If we think that you might need some extra support, then we will talk to you about this in a sensitive manner and work with you to address those areas.
We also have to make sure that we are compliant with things such as fire safety, premises risk assessments, gas, and electric plus lots more. We organise for these checks to be carried out and are audited on them.
Unfortunately, things like candles or incense are not allowed in the premises. Smoking and vaping are also not allowed, we need to make sure that there are no added risks of fire in the property.

We will also give you a Fire Safety Booklet during your book-in which covers the steps you can take and steps that we take to be fire safe.
